Applications of AI

This is an inside look into the internal world of the chip's big brain power. Chips are an integral part of the system, without it, there’s no operation. It’s an imaginative take on chip design to show its complexities in a more artistic way. Being part of this project is such a wonderful experience. I couldn’t ask for a better collaboration. As an artist, working with creative freedom is one of the best things ever.

In this image, I tried to marry the concepts of sustainability and AI. First I visualised AI, represented by the glass cubic structures because to me, AI feels like something structural. Inside the cube are layers of squares and dots. These represent data sets. Once I was happy with it, I started to work on visualising sustainability. I represented it through grass and flowers as it’s something that people can easily relate to and understand.

The outer wider sections of the "Spinal cord" represent a storage of collected data The inner smaller pieces represent the collected data inside this storage, while in the middle of the storage where the data is being scanned for specific information.

AI can solve new problems very easily. It can do stuff humans could never achieve. Therefore, my “problems” in this image are very much simplified. For example, the red wavy shape just needs to find its position in the floor. This could be done by a child. A good metaphor to explain AI’s incredible intelligence. I am very much interested in the topic of AI, it was a huge pleasure for me to create a visual world for that.

Artificial Intelligence can be omnipresent as it is seen in almost every aspect of our daily lives. It is a technology that surrounds us and can be applied invisibly and beneficially to fields as diverse as medicine, transport, urban planning, climate change and energy. This broad application requires an abstract visual response, demonstrated through the concept of ‘volumes’; fog-like 3D ‘atmospheres’ which envelop and embrace their environment. It shows how AI can encompass various themes.

A more literal interpretation of the application of AI is how it can be added to a huge variety of different fields including education, material design and gaming. Here, the application of AI is represented by a ‘wrapper’ which is applied to a series of stylised icons. The icons illustrate the wide range of applications for the technology while the wrap effect roots the concept in a tangible reality.

I wanted to create two different worlds which are divided into a screen (the one in the middle) and a frame (outside one). The uncompressed world isn't nice to look at, it is all super packed and busy, the colors are not very appealing (dark, muddy and grey) this happened because there is just too much data. After the compression of the Data, the image in the middle (represents the final video) is looking way better, the colors are nice and there is even some free space, so that the objects have room to breathe.

The streams of data which Large Language models produce can be thought of as ‘contours’. Strings of information flowing around the content they are trained on, responding to the tasks they are asked to perform. As with the previous concept, these forms can respond dynamically to objects which represent the issues within technology.

The results of a Large Language Model can be thought of as ‘ribbons’ of information. In other words, tokens of data arranged piece by piece to create coherent streams of responses to user inputs. These ribbons of data are complex and nuanced, reflecting the flexibility and power of language. But they are also vulnerable to the abuse of such a versatile system. They can assemble in an ordered fashion or become repelled by objects which represent the hazards and issues inherent to technology...

With this in mind, I created a ‘centre core’ that represents a newborn AI. The expansion shows its varying specialisations as it evolves, growing in many different directions. The glass material was used for its transparent properties. I wanted each sphere to feel like its own organism/collection of knowledge.

With "BRAIN-MODERN" I took a modern, fresh and playful approach, through the language of form and subtle colour selection. The complex brain structure appears lightweight and futuristic through the colourful and abstract setting.

Safety and Ethics

The orb centrepiece stays concrete and strong to ensure that everything is operating smoothly with the AI. With a constant flow of energy revolving around it, it creates trust and accountability in the system.

This represents how AI needs to take constant accountability. Various actions are occurring all around the centre orb which represents AI’s moral responsibilities. The orb centrepiece remains stable to make sure everything is balanced and functional.
